I can see much sense in what you are saying and wonder if I have, maybe, put my head in a lion’s mouth.
When I first spotted the opportunity to provide some pretty basic information to marketers wanting to sell off line that would enable them to ensure that did their client have the money to pay for their imnitial service but also all the money they would need to pay for most, if not all, of the add on services.
I know that what I teach works and I also know that it is not possible to create a range of smaller ‘teaser’ products as a lead in. My product consists of a 16,000 word ‘how to’ ebook (with absolutely no filler) and the opportunity to learn more from me about other aspects of marketing to offline businesses.
The one thing that I never took into account when creating my product is that internet marketers seem to be intent upon offering services like web site optimisation, lead capture, news letters and other medium to long term strategies that just might create the impression of moving forward rather than to offer a simple, obvious money saving process that will immediately impact upon the business bottom line. I suppose I am being forced to accept that smoke and mirrors is more important in the IM world than effective profit making strategies that work next week.
Obviously I am going to have to look at other aspects of life that I might be knowledgeable about populated by less hide-bound and nefarious characters.
I aimed before shooting but the aim mark was only a reflection in a smokey mirror.

The “Ready, Fire, Aim” mentality is so true about what’s being said by so many “authorities” today. I agree that sometimes we need something to keep from procrastinating, but what you are offering us will be far more beneficial long term. Consider a guided missile and how it works - there are built in mechanisms which constantly make small adjustments so the missile stays focused on the target. I think of that like quality control. You may have to make small adjustments, but you shouldn’t have to scrap the whole thing and start over.

With the steps you are showing and the help you’re giving, I think I will finally get to the “Ready, aim, fire” position.

This is like losing weight - when you really, really decide to do it then you are more conscious of all the other things you’re doing (what you’re eating, exercising or not) and how it will affect your decision. You are helping us be more aware of how it all works together in the right order.

  3. I am one step ahead. We all know I am not techie! I was beating my head up against the wall day after day.I took my writing and put it on the back burner. I outsoured the techie stuff.Wrote my ebook and sold my first ebook today. What a relief, not to have to worry about what goes where on the computer.

The installments work like pep talks to keep me motivated. An the idea that we can start small while still working on our original products is comforting.

Having any money coming in helps keep the dream alive, operating costs for Host, auto responders, domains are now a cost of business, not a burden on your family.

I am working on the notion of taking small steps but keeping those big dreams.

  5. Diana Kipka says:

Wow, lots of food for thought in #9 and definitely a call to action - picture me as the little gnome pushing that humungeous stone UPHILL! Lol. But I’m moving forward with setting up ads, writing articles and setting up blogs…ready to rumble.

I particularly took note of the quality control component of this installment - definitely putting that in place but have to watch I don’t over control. Like when do you know when your product is the best you can do? When do you realize that it’s time to stop? I’m always assailed by doubts if I go over and over my work, letting it sit there and I lose faith in it.

Sheesh, this definitely is like group therapy, making us face our weaknesses…glad that you’re appealing to our strengths as well, Kevin.

    Thanks
    Diana

P.S. Congrats to Barbara on your first sale!!!

  6. Heidi Baylor says:

Though I have never personally met Kevin, installment #9 must have been written about me! Inertia and delegating. I tend to keep pushing up hill only because I am trying to do everything myself. Thanks for pointing this out - looking forward to more productive days ahead.

    Heidi
